If you haven't been to the zoo for many years a return visit may surprise you.
Changes - Zoos have been improving their facilities constantly and many Zoos have introduced new animals, upgraded animal enclosures and added features such as mono-rails, water bus rides and cable cars to improve your enjoyment. Many offer activities such as being a Zoo keeper for the day, Birthday parties, Over-night stays and include areas were some animals can be touched. Keeper for the day - This is a unique experience for anyone. Your day will be spent helping with food preparation, feeding, cleaning out and anything else that is required in the care of animals. This type of activity is usually restricted to 18+ but is an ideal and surprising gift to give someone. It is also an amazing chance to see what happens behind the scenes at the zoo. Birthday parties - Many zoos offer a birthday treat full of animal entertainment and out-doors fun. Sometimes the party can include a guided tour and a picnic lunch box or birthday party. Adopt an animal - Most Zoos have adapted to the pressures of having huge overheads such as feeding the animals and staff wages with the help of sponsorship. Many major companies have helped by sponsoring animals. Jaguar cars for example have funded a huge enclosure at Chester Zoo for Jaguar cats. It is also possible for individuals to sponsor a favourite animal and help pay for it's food and care, this can also be done as a gift or in remembrance of a friend. Television - Zoos are always popular with television companies and this also helps to generate revenue. Many conservation programs produce a steady stream of new arrivals and often feature in the news. Many news crews are able to follow the release of these animals back into the wild. Other companies produce programs that feature endangered species and create an awareness of their plight.
