Suggestions for Day trips

Liverpool
Mersey Ferry My home town of Liverpool has lots to offer. The 'Ferry across the Mersey', the Yellow DuckMarine, the Albert dock, the Maritime Museum, Blue Planet Sealife centre, Ellesmere Port Canal Boat Museum, The 3 'Graces', Anthony Gormleys statues in the sea and the Sandy coastline and nature reserve from Hightown to Southport. You may have heard of the 'Ferry across the Mersey'. Why not travel by Ferry from the Pier Head (home of the 3 Graces) to Seacombe's small aquarium and back. Afterwards try the 'Yellow Duckmarine' for an amphibious tour of Liverpool and the docks. The Yellow Duckmarine drives into the dock, sailing around the various marinas for a quick guided tour then leaves the dock visiting some of Liverpool's landmarks before returning to the Albert Dock. The Albert dock is home to Liverpool's Maritime Museum, the Tate Gallery and a small number of shops. Just along the coast at Burbo Bank in Blundellsands Anthony Gormleys 100 statues are set in the sand/mud/sea. Further along the coast at Formby Point there are golden sandy beaches, 60 ft sand dunes, a 12 mile nature reserve which includes the National Trust Red Squirrel reserve at Victoria Road.

Portsmouth
HMS Victory Portmouth Historic Docklands Portsmouth's Historic Naval Dockyard is a great dayout. Included in the price is a tour of the harbour to see the current warships moored here. You are able to go on board the fully restored HMS Victory and HMS Warrior. You are also able to inspect the Mary Rose, Henry VIII famous flag ship which is currently getting restored. The base has a number maritime museums and a hands on exhibition called Action Stations which features the modern Navy. But Portsmouth has more to offer. On the 'doorstep' is the ruins of Porchester Castle with it's excellent views of the harbour. In neighbouring Gosport there is the Royal Navy Submarine Museum were you are able to go inside HMS Alliance and Holland I. On HMS Alliance you are able to experience the conditions and consider the nightmare situation of a depth charge attack. Holland I is the first Navy Submarine and has been recovered and restored and has pride of place in this museum. Gosport also has a Museum of Naval firepower.
